The Unlikely Family
Characters:
Nina Vanderbelt: 18, sister of Reemy and Zank, Zank receives custody of her from her foster parents. Nina is quiet and a bookworm. She has had quite a hard life with her foster parents and usually does things without being asked twice. Her brothers’ gang teaches her about what a true family can be like even though they might not be related by blood.
Reemy Vanderbelt: 19, brother of Nina and Zank. The dare-devil of the Vanderbelts. Seems to not always have a brain. Huge flirt. Comedian of the gang. Teaches Nina how to have fun and how to laugh.
Zank Vanderbelt: 22, older brother of Reemy and Nina. Leader of the gang. Has dreams of college but knows it isn’t meant to be and tries to instill an interest in college into Reemy and Nina. Kind, merciful, but also has “the boss” attitude. Works at a bar.
Danny Movitch: 17, twin brother of Danny. Actually still in school but only for sports. Got a scholarship for basketball from a college. Not sure if he wants to go but is happy to teach Nina some basketball.
Manny Movitch: 17, twin brother of Manny and is in school as well. Quiet and the conscience of everyone in the gang. Has quite the eye for Nina. Hopes to be “somebody” someday but not sure what he wants to do.
Lance Link: 19, good fighter and works at martial arts school. Keeps quiet about his major crush on Nina and likes to tease her a lot. Teaches Nina how to defend herself.
Larry Samson: 18, wears a trench coat and looks like whole part of a gangster. Works at the gym down the road. No one actually knows what his last name is so they gave him “Samson” because of his muscles. He teaches Nina about God.
Miguel Mitchelli: 21, Zank’s right hand man. Handy man and was encouraged by Zank to become a Handy man. Like an older brother to Nina after he saves her from being harassed from another gang.
Chaz Cavalo: 22, works at an amusement park. Prankster and really bonds the gang together as a family. Teaches Nina that people don’t have to be related by blood to be family. Plays the drums in Bobby’s band.
Rentaro Shimizu: 22, the smart aleck of the group. Trying to write a book and sometimes crashes on the Vanderbelt’s living room couch. Disgusted by the gang’s terrible grammar, he tries to teach Nina how to speak properly.
Antonio Shepard: 20, works at an auto shop and always smells like hard work. Teaches Nina how to drive. Shares with her a dream to open a pet store.
Bobby Kurt: 22, formed a bad with Rico, Jose, and Chaz. Superb at playing many musical instruments. Teaches Nina how to play the tambourine.
Rico Iglesias: 21, the singer of the group and likes playing the flute to the chagrin of his band members. They wanted a “supa hot” band instead of a “boy” band. Rico believes playing the flute will make their band unique. Gets a hesitant Nina to sing with him.
Jose Martinez: 22, Plays the keyboard as a hobby for Bobby’s band but is actually the cook of the group. Wants to start a restaurant but Bobby would be upset. Everyone called him the “mother” of the group. Nina bonds quickly with Jose because she knows how to cook and clean. Jose wasn’t very good at cleaning and was ecstatic when Nina arrived.
